TGIF – Try This Trick to Overcome Doubt

Happy Friday, dear readers!

It’s my favorite time of the week – TGIF Post time! Basically, a time to reflect on the wins, losses and realizations to make sure we’re all on the right track towards our goals.

This kind of reflection is necessary for our overall happiness too. We need to take in inspiration, push ourselves to grow and make sure we’re still having fun.

Here’s how TGIF works:

  • T – Truth: Tell me something you learned about yourself this week.
  • G – Growth: Describe one way in which you grew this week, whether it’s in the direction of a goal or something unexpected.
  • I – Inspiration: List one thing that inspired you this week.
  • F – Fun: Talk about what you did to have FUN this week!

These posts are all about you! I want to hear about what happened in your week. What “aha” moments did you have, and what did you do to have fun?

I’ll get the discussion started by sharing my TGIF from the week:

Truth

I had a big truth this week, and I’m excited to share it with you. I think it’s something we all need to think about once in a while.

Many mornings I wake up with a little bit of fear. That nagging voice of doubt tries to drag me down right when the alarm clock goes off. I’m still pretty new to this create-my-own-work-life thing, and I see several people online daily who are just rockin’ the freelance business. Every day I get new ideas of what I want my business to look like, and then I become doubtful because I’m not anywhere close to that.

Wednesday morning, my Debbie Doubtful voice was loud. But I finally shut her up. How did I quiet the negativity?

I thought about where I was at a year ago. At this time last year, I was just launching my writing website and pitching my first clients. I dreamt about working from home – in fact, the Wednesday ahead of me was the exact kind of word day I had dreamt about in those beginning stages.

My Wednesday was going to start with a cup of hot tea and meditation following by a workout in our home gym. Then, I’d write an article for an awesome client on fruits and veggies (a topic I love!), start editing a children’s book (a CHILDREN’S BOOK!!), and take a couple hours to go walk trails with my friend. Later, I’d have a phone call for my new essential oils venture, then a time chunk of good ol’ blogstorming. Kyle would come home and we’d walk Yoshi and talk about our day. Then I had a fun networking event to go to.

Seriously, the March 2016 version of Michelle was working so hard to get this exact day. Here it was, and I was scared. Doubtful.

When I thought about it that way, I immediately became grateful for all that I got to do on that Wednesday. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it and approached my assignments with passion.

Tip: Next time you’re feeling doubtful or unsatisfied with where you’re at, think instead about how far you’ve come. I know you’ve heard this before, but have you actually tried doing it? Too often we forget about the progress we’ve made. We get so focused on what we want, that we forget about what we have.

Growth

My big goal this year is to get my creative writing published. To do that, I need to keep improving. So this week I sent my new short story off to my editor, miss Chelsey Clammer, who always gives me new perspectives and tips. Investing in learning and improving is essential to achieving those big goals!

I also held my second essential oils class, and this time…I actually spoke! Not for very long, quiet Michelle has to take small steps, but I’m getting there! What’s my goal here? Mainly, I’ve seen such a huge improvement in my health and stress management since I made more natural, healthy changes in my life, and I want to help others see how natural solutions can help them live more to their potential. Every class gives more people an alternative to think about.

Inspiration

To get all sappy, I’m going to say that my husband has been my inspiration. Kyle recently started a new blog, Choose Your Wellness. He has been committed to posting 3 times a week, and he hasn’t missed one post! Kyle works full time and devotes so much of his spare time to getting this content out there to help people reach their health goals. I’m a full-time blogger and struggle to stick to my own 2x/month blog schedule! His commitment to this is a huge inspiration to me. Check it out here!

Fun

I got out on Wednesday for an enjoyable walk with my friend Lindsey, her sweet baby Maddox, and our 2 happy little doggies. Since she’s still on her maternity leave, we took advantage of our flexibility and met up in middle of the day for some good exercise and girl time. What a fun way to break up the week!

In addition, I’ve started each work session this week with a quick dance to “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” I can’t help it, Yoshi loves dancing.
